White Horses is the recreation of the ‘lost’ Puffin Picture Book that Ravilious was working on during the Autumn of 1939 and although reached dummy stages was ultimately abandoned. His original watercolours of the chalk figures on the Downs are now considered amongst his finest work. These are now included in this reimagining, based on the dummy, and with the black and white illustrations sensitively and imaginatively drawn by Alice Pattullo.
The book is in Puffin Picture Book format, but with an accompanying wrap around dustwrapper inside which is told the story of White Horses and the journey towards this book.
