Since we opened we’ve been running one to one workshops for children that are currently being home educated..
Many of these brilliant people have autism and have struggled with ‘mainstream’ education. We have a lot to say on the subject, please pop in if you’d like to discuss your experiences or need general support or ideas.
We feel it’s time to start regular group sessions…..
We will run two sessions per week for different age groups and we’re starting with a call out to all 6-12 year olds.
It will run every Thursday morning, 10.30am-11.30am and the cost will be £10.00 inclusive of all materials and we will take a maximum of 4 children at a time.
The sessions will be participant lead, we will have a different theme/activity each week but it’s crucial to us that the children go at their own pace and create an environment that’s going to make them the most comfortable.
We treat everyone as professional artists, and by that.. we mean that we want to develop each child’s natural ability and interests in the art world. So if someone loves drawing Pokemon we’ll develop that with them rather than making anyone draw a pepper or a flower, although that’s great too.
If someone likes making masks, we’ll be all over this encouraging them to develop their mask making skills and perhaps introduce puppets too and the notion that this could be something they could make a living from in the future.
The lovely Flatland Projects are really supportive of our home schooled children and there will be opportunities to go and visit their exhbitions and the lovely De La Warr Pavillion have relaxed viewings and will also show us around at a pace whcih is going to be comfortable for us all.
If you have any further questions, do let us know.
We understand it’s a big jump to be part of a group so we’re all treading lightly……. X
P.S. Parents/Carers welcome to stay.
